Description

The city of Tucson has been planning the redevelopment of the 100-Acre Wood Bike Park. The park has been a homeless and trouble hotspot for years. In May 2024, the city started clearing the park after offering outreach for the homeless for two years to allow Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to do testing for PFAS. The Department of Defense announced in February 2024 that more than 30 locations across the country would be testing for PFAS near their facilities, including Davis-Monthan. Several homeless people moved back into the park shortly afterward. In January 2025, Tucson hosted a public forum about plans for the redevelopment of the bike park. In March 2025, the city tried to clear out the park to make room for the development. In July 2025, despite outreach efforts, several tents, shopping carts, and vehicles were still present in the area.
