Description
Description | This project is a part of the City’s High-Injury Network - the 12 percent of streets that account for 68 percent of severe and fatal traffic collisions - the project corridor experienced 99 collisions, with over one-third involving bicyclists or pedestrians, between 2015 and 2019., The project’s outcome is the result of community outreach effort. The project team reached out to residents and businesses along the corridor through website, mail, email, social media, SMS messages and posted flyers. Each entity along the corridor was visited by project staff to talk about the project and gather feedback. Additionally, surveys were administered to everyone along the corridor and gathered over a larger parachute area via email, mail, social media, SMS to over 3,000 subscribers as well as in-person. Factsheets and websites were developed to share project details and encourage feedback. The project planning phase began in 2021 and the project team held initial stakeholder meetings to introduce the project, before staff developed conceptual designs. These meetings allowed the project team and stakeholders to develop conceptual designs, build foundations of trust, and establish shared project goals. Throughout the detailed design phase, the project team continued to actively engage community groups to update the project details, which also include placemaking elements within the project area., The 13th Street Safety Project will improve safety and comfort for all who travel on the 13th Street corridor between Folsom Street and Valencia Street and will reduce the number of conflicts between those who walk, bike and drive along this corridor. Transportation safety improvements to be implemented on 13th Street includes sidewalk extensions to increase pedestrian visibility and shorten crossings, signal timing and hardware upgrades to help control and organize traffic flow, protected bike lanes to physically separate people riding bikes from people driving, and parking and loading changes to maximize use of curb space., This project will improve the safety of multimodal travel along the corridor and will connect San Francisco’s bicycle network with direct access to Folsom Street, Valencia Street, and Division Street corridors. |
