2017 Flood Control Masterplan Implementation in Cebu

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin implementing the long-shelved 2017 flood control masterplan for Cebu, which was developed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from 2013 to 2017. The masterplan includes flood control and integrated water resources management components such as watershed protection, water impounding for potable water supply, irrigation, hydro energy, and tourism. The plan also recommends stricter enforcement of no-build zones to prevent communities from settling in flood-prone river areas. The implementation follows the deadly impact of Typhoon Tino, which caused significant casualties and damage in Cebu.
