Description

Description

The Project aims to rehabilitate roads in rural areas to sustain the existing transportation network. All work will be completed within the current provincial right-of-way on the existing road footprint and there will be no impact to undisturbed land, forests, or waterways. The Project scope consists of upgrading approximately 5.6 kilometres of the following local roads in Prince Edward Island: • Route 243 - Woodstock/Howlan (2.0 km) • Route 226 - Darlington (1.3km) • Route 15 - Brackley Beach (2.3 km) The Project includes asphalt resurfacing and shouldering which will in turn improve road safety, structural strength, ride quality and extend the life of the assets by 15-20 years. Improvements to roads in rural areas of Prince Edward Island are vital to sustaining the Province’s continued population growth. Many of these roads have seen increased residential, agricultural, tourist, and commercial traffic over the years and have not had any significant changes with respect to their design and function. The Project will benefit residents, visitors and industry alike by improving roadways to farms, fishing harbours, processing plants, tourist destinations and rural communities. Investing and improving roadways in and around rural areas will contribute to the success of the region and surrounding communities.
