2021-22 Capital Projects 14K Plus Active Transportation Routes

This project aims to create 14 kilometers of active transportation (AT) corridors in the province. Two AT Trail Projects (Upton Road - Charlottetown: 1.1 km and Route 6 - Cavendish: 0.8 km) involve earth excavation; storm sewer and catch basin installation; select borrow, granular A and asphalt seal B placement; and landscaping. For the Paved Shoulder Projects (Route 143 - Howlan: 1.6 km, Church Hill Avenue - North Rustico: 0.7 km, Route 26 - Pownal: 8.0 km, and Route 13 - Crapaud: 1.4 km), the process includes cold planing the outside wheel path of the existing roadway and shoulder, placing asphalt levelling A in the cold planed section, and asphalt seal B over the full road width. Route 13 - Crapaud also has a 300m section with grade improvements to improve sight distance and safety. The final asphalt seal B is essential to enhance safety on these poorly conditioned roads.
