Description
Description | Project: This project consists of constructing an active transportation trail at the Prince Edward Home Long Term Care Facility in Charlottetown, PE. Scope: Work includes constructing a 2.5 m wide, paved trail for approximately 350 metres and installing storm sewer for drainage. We believe that the creation of this park will enhance connectivity in the community; promote social inclusion; increase intergenerational interaction; promote physical activity and positive mental health/well-being; and ultimately increase the overall healthy living of all Islanders. Aim: Although open to all Islanders, this will be located directly on the grounds of the Prince Edward Home. The venue includes a scenic outdoor space that is currently underutilized and undeveloped. Additionally, the proposed plan entails connectivity to an adjacent trail system further expanding the community reach of the site. This project will provide a safe space for Islanders to be more active and stay connected. The creation of continuous circulation loops within the park will promote safe active transportation for everyone as the pathways will be positioned away from busy streets and heavily trafficked areas. The Park will also be a safe area where families can take children to be active and enjoy nature. The walkways will be paved and wheel chair accessible which will allow safe physical activity for all demographics and abilities. It also allows for additional modes of active transportation such as rollerblading, skateboarding, and cycling. |
