This project consists of construction of paved shoulders for approximately 14.943 kilometers across central/western Prince Edward Island to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The scope of work will include cold planning the outside wheel path of the existing roadway and approximately 1.0-1.5 meters of the existing granular shoulder. This section would then be filled with asphalt base (55mm). The entire road surface would then be overlaid with a thin lift of asphalt seal (45mm) to ensure proper water drainage and a smooth transition. The aim of the project is to reduce transportation emissions and encourage more walking/cycling by constructing safer active transportatoin corridors. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure with the support of the Province is committed to improving active transpiration across the province to reduce transportation emissions while encouraging more walking, cycling and community transit. Among the priorities of our Department we have been working hard in developing a plan to address active transportation while working with federal partners.
