Every year, the state and federal governments prepare and adopt new laws. This process is known as legislation. The Office of Economic Development and Government Affairs monitors state and federal legislation to act and respond to proposed laws that impact the County and its residents. To direct this work, a Legislative Program is developed annually to outline the County’s policy direction and legislative priorities across a range of issues and subject areas that are anticipated to have a significant impact (positive or negative) on the County, its operations, budget, and the constituents we serve. These priorities help frame advocacy efforts throughout the year and reflect significant areas of interest for the County at the state and federal level. Examples include affordable housing, climate change, homelessness, equity and justice, transportation, and safety.
