Description
Description | Fest Anča International Animation Festival is Slovakia’s only leading platform dedicated to the art of animated film, bringing together diverse audiences including international European industry professionals, and emerging talents from across Europe and beyond. We are the country’s only Academy Awards® Qualifying Festival and the only annual festival with a sole focus on animation, playing a key role in promoting the medium as an independent art form, while also fostering connections between creators, students, the wider film industry and public. The festival’s programme serves as a key platform for European and international films in Slovakia and showcases a carefully curated selection of outstanding animated works, including an international competition and thematic showcases, many premiering at the festival. Beyond screenings, the additional accompanying programme offers exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, concerts, and tailored programming for young audiences, families, students, and industry professionals. The industry programme facilitates networking, collaboration, and professional development, with initiatives like the Student Forum fostering connections between animation schools across Europe, including those from low-capacity countries. Set in Žilina’s culturally significant venues, the festival decentralizes cultural events from Slovakia’s main hubs and actively engages local audiences. Fest Anča’s informal and inclusive atmosphere encourages open dialogue between filmmakers, organizers, and visitors—no VIP zones, red carpets, or barriers to creative exchange. More than just a six-day festival, Fest Anča operates year-round through outreach education initiatives and Kino Fest Anča, Slovakia’s largest distribution of animated and short films. Fest Anča is a vital hub for creative exchange, community engagement, and innovation in the European animation landscape committed to diversifying audiences, industry growth, and education. |
