20th and 21st Verzió Film Festival and year-round activities

This proposal presents our plans for the forthcoming 20th and 21st Verzió International Human Rights Documentary Film Festivals, as well as Verzió’s year-round activities. Our goal in 2023 is to celebrate the past 19 years of Verzió: documentary films and people. The 20th Verzió will be held in a hybrid format for the third time, bringing approximately 80 documentary films to the cinemas of seven Hungarian cities, as well as presenting them online. Around 200 screenings, a VR-exhibition, an alternative film poster exhibition, debates and panel talks, masterclasses and workshops will take place with the participation of various stakeholders to engage with the audience, share their knowledge and experience, build partnerships, find collaboration partners, discuss the most important topics around the making and circulation of creative documentaries. Besides the presentation of the latest creative documentaries, we will celebrate with some of the most remarkable films that premiered at Verzió since 2004, hence a larger program is being designed for this special edition. We will continue to extend our outreach to the young audiences, and promote the European talents through a diverse list of educational and film literacy activities. We aim to attract ca. 30,000 people, supported by a powerful communication campaign. We will focus on strengthening our year-round activities, including the online platform Verziotheque and the School Verzió program that offers films and educational materials as well as moderation expertise to teachers and film clubs across the country. There are great plans to develop the UniVerzió program as well, in cooperation with local and international universities that aim to promote multi-disciplinary use for documentaries. In November 2024 we will organize the 21st Verzió Film Festival, and until the end of the project period in August 2025, we will continue to develop our year-round activities and prepare for the next festival edition.
