Description

Description

The 2Africa subsea cable project is a planned 45,000-kilometre fibre-optic cable system expected to become the world's largest undersea internet system linking Africa with Europe and the Middle East. The Persian Gulf segment of the cable, which passes through landing stations in Oman, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Pakistan, India, and Saudi Arabia, has been halted due to the ongoing Middle East conflict. The French state-owned company Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), responsible for installing the cable, has stopped operations in the area because of security concerns, and its cable-laying vessel is stranded near Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
