Description | The 2Africa subsea cable is the world's longest open access subsea cable system, spanning 45,000 km and linking 33 countries with 46 landing points in Europe and Asia. It offers 180Tbps of capacity with 16 fiber pairs. The cable runs from the UK along the west coast of Africa to South Africa, then north along the east coast to Djibouti and the Gulf, as well as from Spain to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The project was first announced in 2020 and involves a consortium of eight partners. An extension called 2Africa Pearls is planned to add landing points in the Middle East and India, scheduled to go live in 2026. |
