Economic/Social Impact of the Project Essar Power [Jharkhand] Ltd [EPJL], a wholly owned subsidiary of Essar Power Ltd. is implementing a 1800 MW Thermal Power Plant in two phases at Latehar District, Jharkhand. Phase I is for 1200 MW [2 X600 MW] and Phase II is for 600 MW [1X600 MW]. The total investment for phase I of the project is about Rs 9755 Cr out of which more than Rs 4000 Cr has been already invested and is expected to be commissioned in FY 2017/18. A consortium of lenders led by ICICI Bank has sanctioned the project and partly disbursed. We have already acquired the land required for Main Plant area and balance land is under acquisition. Water allocation, PPA and all the major clearances required are already obtained. However due to the de allocation of coal mines as per the Honble Supreme Court Order the lenders have stopped disbursement and project is on hold.
