Description

Description

Ljubljana International Film Festival (Liffe) is the biggest and most important international film festival in Slovenia; its aim is to illustrate the continuity and progress of film as an art form, to develop the public’s appreciation of new film production and their authors, to present films of young/new directors and give them support in winning recognition in local territory and wider through distribution . The festival's focus is to nurture audiences all year long. It is worth pointing out that Cankarjev dom is not producing only Liffe festival but several other film events during the year. Liffe's »little brother«, The Ljubljana Documentary Film Festival, is held every March and organized with the same creative team; almost all program and educational events are in tune with Liffe's vision. Liffe's audiences are quite young, although we are attracting audiences of all ages. The average age of our visitors is between 18 and 40 years. Part of our strategy for addressing younger people is through a specialized youth program Kinobalon that accompanies our variety of educational programs for different ages (from 5 to 17). We introduced a specialized youth film jury in 2016, who has been watching a selection of films related to youth problem themes and awarding the best film. Liffe is also recognizing the importance of new technologies and social media, especially when addressing younger audiences who are at the focal point of festival's development programs. Education initiatives, cooperation with schools, interaction with international guests remain one of festival's main goals, also strengthening decentralized events and collaboration with Slovenia’s Art Cinema Network. To enhance the visibility of European films even more, we introduced a special LUX prize section in year 2014 (in collaboration with the European Parliament Office in Slovenia), showcasing the LUX nominees of the reference year; one of the screenings is always gratis.
