World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb, established in 1972, is one of the most important and the second oldest animation film festival in the world. The festival takes place early in June in Croatia´s capital city Zagreb and brings the best of short and feature animation from all over the world. Animafest Zagreb screens around 350 films every year and places high emphasis on presentation of European film to present and place European short and feature films in a global context, focusing on both European heritage and contemporary works. With competition, retrospective and thematic film programs, a symposium on contemporary animation studies, presentations, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops held at numerous locations across the city, the festival provides a comprehensive insight into contemporary animated production, presents latest trends and technologies and celebrates its rich tradition. Along with our regular activities of festival organization, we are recognized on national and international level as promoters of animation, source of information and contacts within the broader animation community. Our activities provide the platform to connect the professionals from the field, encourage the exchange of animation professionals and co-productions which are key in achieving sustainable production budgets. Led by a wish to facilitate circulation and promotion of the unique content we present to the festival audience, we connect with partners - film literacy programs and platforms, schools, other festivals and cinemas to offer high-quality animated films of all formats throughout the year.
