38th and Geary Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons

This project will design and install rectangular rapid flashing beacons, pedestrian push buttons, and improved signage to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of 38th Avenue and Geary Boulevard. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency completed a study of intersection conditions and determined that the best traffic control measure for this intersection is beacons, push buttons, and improved signage. While northbound and southbound approaches to the intersection are currently stop controlled, eastbound and westbound traffic is uncontrolled. These improvements will alert motorists to people crossing Geary Boulevard at 38th Avenue and encourage them to yield. A public hearing will be held to receive feedback on the project. The Transportation Authority’s Neighborhood Program is intended to strengthen project pipelines and advance the delivery of community-supported neighborhood-scale projects.
