Description

Description

3D COVER researches and develops material-specific foundations for the processes of powder bed-based additive manufacturing (AM) using lasers (selective laser melting (SLS or SLM)). The planned project combines the expertise of three research institutions in the programme region, which is a unique combination. 3D COVER creates research bases for the entire process chain of this process, which develops into a manufacturing technique that will be as important as traditional component production via mechanical processes and casting processes. The aim of the project is to create a material-specific knowledge base for SLM technology, which still exists insufficiently in this form. The further aim is to expand the research infrastructure and capacities in the programme area based on existing equipment and expertise and to support the training of specialists in the programme region in a future-oriented manner. This is in line with the EU’s transregional support policy and the Danube Strategy. The activities in 3D COVER provide for the treatment of all process steps in the production process of the SLM technology: The production, development and specific preparation of the raw material “powder” (A) 1.1), processing to the 3D component (A) 1.2, test components for all subsequent steps), the post-treatment of the components (A) 1.3, heat and surface treatment), component characterisation (A) 1.4) and accompanying simulation of component properties (A) 1.5). Activity A 1.6 is used for project coordination, transregional networking and the preparation of a training centre in the programme area. The target groups of the project are research and educational institutions as well as companies in the manufacturing sector, which can produce the basic results. Due to the universal applicability of AM technology in virtually all industries, 3D COVER creates enormous added value for the programme area with a national appeal.
