Description
Description | As part of the FC measure 400 kV power transmission line Albania - Macedonia, a third cross-border power transmission line is to be built in Albania, thus closing the last gap in the transmission network with its neighboring countries. The planned investments are of great regional importance, as the planned power transmission line is an important building block in the regional network and an important prerequisite for regional electricity exchange. In addition, the new line will help improve the security and quality of supply in the power transmission system in Albania and the region. The beneficiaries of the project are therefore all consumers connected to the Albanian power grid. The program will build two sub-lines (i) the Elbasan - Fier transmission line and (ii) the Elbasan - Qafe Thane transmission line. In addition, the new construction of the 400/220 kV Elbasan 3 switchgear and the rehabilitation of the 400/220 kV Fier switchgear are planned. The section of the line on the Macedonian side will be constructed in a complementary manner by the Macedonian electricity transmission company MEPSO and financed by a loan from the EBRD. The borrower and program sponsor is the Albanian electricity transmission company Operatori i Sistemit te Transmetimit (OST sh.a.). The program is to be financed primarily by development loans of up to EUR 50.0 million and an investment grant from the WBIF of EUR 14.0 million. The sponsor OST's own contribution will amount to EUR 5 million. |
