Description
Description | The 4th Street Bridge, a truss bridge erected in 1936, was demolished in a controlled explosion on March 2, 2026, due to its age and to make way for a new replacement bridge. The demolition included a smaller controlled blast on April 30, 2026, to remove the bridge piers. The new bridge is planned to be a signature bridge that is safer, stronger, and better equipped to support future traffic. Construction activities include clearing debris, excavating for new footers, and installing drilled shafts, with above-ground work expected in summer/fall. The new bridge is expected to reopen to traffic by summer 2028. |
