50 Gas Wells Drilling Project

The government of Bangladesh initiated a project to drill 50 gas wells over four years starting in 2022 to increase domestic gas exploration and production. The project includes development, refurbishment, and exploration wells. As of November 2025, 20 wells have been completed, with work underway on six more. The project aims to add an additional 620 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid once completed. The project has faced delays due to slow progress in project approval and tender processes, and it is unlikely to be completed within the original timeframe. Preparations for a new project involving another 100 wells have already begun.
