5G Connect Danube Delta

The project's main goal is to deploy 5G connectivity for users in the remote and less densely populated Danube Delta region of Romania, aiming to boost social, business, and governmental development. This initiative is aligned with the European Gigabit Society's strategy to facilitate advanced SGIs and support 5G infrastructure implementation. The focus is on installing 5G New Radio technology and updating necessary infrastructure like fixed and wireless backhaul systems, antennas, and radio processing units for 16 existing radio sites, as well as deploying 3 new radio sites in selected regions from the Danbue Delta region. These updates and developments are essential for supporting the new or improved RAN, ensuring top-tier connectivity features such as high-speed data transfer, low latency, the ability to link IoT devices, and dependable service. Additionally, the project involves outlining and conducting test scenarios for the 5G network to enable certain Socio-Economic Drivers (SEDs), with case studies in critical areas such as healthcare, education, tourism, and environmental monitoring. Five SGI providers will assist in these validation efforts, impacting various communities and key infrastructures like medical units and schools within the Danube Delta region. These targeted localities, all within the Tulcea county, fall under the jurisdiction of the Tulcea County Council, the public authority associated with the 5G-CDD project.
