Description
Description | The project SMILLA’S SENSE OF SNOW is an international high-end 6-part series (45-50 min/ep 1st season) based on the best-selling book of the same name by Peter Høeg (1992) whose topics are more relevant nowadays than ever before. Besides Smilla’s thrilling journey to solve a crime – the murder of a little boy – our goal is to elevate the struggle of identity being of mixed-race. Smilla is partly Greenlandic Inuit, partly Danish. With her as protagonist, we throw a bridge to Inuit culture and mythology. Elements of magical realism complement the intense crime plot to a unique visual experience. By following Smilla on her own way, we guarantee a strong identification for a broad, young and globalised audience of diverse cultures. SMILLA will also shine a light on the climate and energy crises, refugees and racism through epic, commercial entertainment. The show will be a German-Lithuanian co-production (Constantin Television GmbH and Baltic Film Services UAB) with Swedish Viaplay Group AB co-producing as broadcaster. With 68 shooting days in the Baltics and on Iceland, the series will combine an international team and cast. Our sophisticated project will clearly underline the international production standard of the Baltic film industry. A large part of the shooting will take place in Vilnius’ UAB Kino Studija Studios. Post-production and VFX will take place in Germany. Overall, more than 250 people will directly benefit in an economical way from the production itself (cast, team) and over 700 people are involved otherwise (extras, attached services e.g., catering & travel) SMILLA will be positioned as major European, English-language production and has strong partners on the exploitation side. It is expected to strengthen the pillars of modern democracy by showing a world full of risks and chances of a near-future Western society. The high production value stands for a competitive European film industry. |
