Phase 1 improvements are planned from NE 190th St to 62nd Ave NE and will consist of New sidewalk to replace damaged sidewalk on the east side of the roadway New bike lanes (both sides) New Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramps New crosswalk flashing beacons with advance speed feedback signs (2) at NE 193rd and 60th Ave NE Pavement overlay Tree removal and replacement (as needed; see below) Channelization revisions On-street parking removal Right turn pocket removal at NE 193rd St, 60th Ave NE, NE 197th St and 62nd Ave NE Curb extensions at NE 193rd St and 60th Ave NE Tree Removal and Replacement - Some trees along this corridor will need to be removed. The project team is evaluating options to preserve as many trees as possible; however, the age and condition of the existing trees, their growth and root pattern, and their proximity to the sidewalk may make it impractical to preserve the trees, resulting in their removal. Any trees removed will be replaced, where possible, with a more appropriate tree compatible with the location. Final tree retention plan will be presented to public via online open house and then to the City Council for discussion in Q2 2023. Phase 1 Schedule - Pre-design study began in 2022 and will continue into Q1 2023. Design is expected to start in Q2 2023, with construction starting as early as 2025. Phase 2 Current Status: Pre-Design Estimated Construction: 2026 Phase 2 improvements are planned from NE 182nd St to 62nd Ave NE and will consist of New sidewalk to replace damaged sidewalk on the west side of the roadway between NE 190th St and 60th Ave NE New re-aligned sidewalk on eat side of roadway between NE 182nd St and NE 190th St to increase Cha This Creek (Whiskers Creek/Tributary 0056) stream buffer Cat Whiskers Creek (Tributary 0056) buffer enhancement between NE 182nd St and NE 190th St New bike lanes (both sides) between NE 182nd St and NE 190th St Pavement overlay Phase 2 Schedule - Design is expected to start in 2023 with estimated construction start in 2026. *City is engaged in discussions with funding agencies to merge the two projects into 1 larger project. If this occurs, construction is estimated to begin in 2026.
