Description | The project involves the reconstruction of the 79th Street Boat Basin dock house on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City. The new one-story building is designed to appear as if it is floating over the Hudson River, supported by nine columns above the dock. It features chamfered corners for better views, a stainless steel facade reflecting the surrounding water and sky, and a green roof. The dock house will include a locker room for staff, bathrooms, showers, and additional slips for boats and kayaks. The design was approved by the Public Design Commission in August 2025, following delays and design changes. The building is 3,800 square feet, 40% smaller than originally proposed but larger than the former structure. Construction is expected to take two years, potentially completing in 2028. |
