800 MW coal power plant project in Krabi to face delays

The proposed coal power plant project in the southern province of Krabi, Thailand, is likely to be delayed. The central government has directed the Ministry of Energy and EGAT to prepare new environmental impact assessment and environmental health impact assessment reports for the project. EGAT and the Ministry of Energy will conduct the fresh assessments with the help of civic participation. Earlier, EGAT had already conducted similar assessments but the project had faced public protests on grounds of its adverse impact on the environment and nearby habitations. The move is expected to delay the commissioning of the 800 MW power plant project until 2024.
