Description | Works to remove the 86th level crossing under the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project have been delivered in Diggers Rest. A new bridge named 'Golden Way' separates vehicles from trains by connecting the Old Calder Highway to Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road over the rail line. The project aims to improve traffic flow and safety by removing the level crossing used by over 8000 vehicles daily, which faced delays of up to 36 minutes during peak times. The removal supports the Sunbury Line becoming boom gate free and the opening of the Metro Tunnel later in the year. Additional works include building a new community space, landscaping, pedestrian connections, and a separated cycling path. |
