A biocide-free pro-active city

The ReactiveCity project is about developing a strategy supported by various actors to reduce harmful biocidal emissions for a ‘permeable’ city.” The objective: the collection and sewage treatment plant infrastructures for rainwater relieve the burden and meet the increasing water demand for greening urban areas. The project is designed to develop, disseminate and permanently establish practical and transferable insights at the level of urban areas on the Upper Rhine that want to integrate the reduction of biocides into their climate change adaptation plan. This project idea builds on the NAVEBGO, which was completed at the end of September 2022. The previous project made clear the little-known problem of facade biocides and helped to reconsider the design of permeable cities. The new project goes one step further on this issue by extending the problem to the various biocidal sources and all environmental compartments and key players.
