Description

Description

"According to the WHO cancer in 2020 was responsible for 10 million global deaths, that is about 1 in 6 deaths. If precautions are not taken it is projected that the global cancer burden will exceed 27 million new cases per year by 2040. Worldwide, the most common cancers are breast and lung cancer, accounting for 12.5% and 12.2%, respectively, of the total number of new diagnoses registered in 2020. For Turkey, the scenario is similar, with the three most common cancers being: lung (17.65%), breast (10.3%) and colon (9.1%). Faced with this scenario, which worsened with the Covid 19 pandemic, the need to act arose and, with it, the project ""A butterfly's lifespan is not just one day"". WHO says, a key measure in cancer prevention is to reduce exposure to risk factors such as: behavioural factors - tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity; metabolic factors - overweight and obesity; environmental factors - air pollution. In view of this recommendation, focusing on breast cancer and the reality in Turkey, the following factors will be highlighted: Dietary Factors, Physical activity and obesity. That said, it is important to bear in mind that the factors mentioned are part of a complex equation, and we need to look at them as dependent variables and not as independent variables. This means that although the project aims to act directly on behavioural and metabolic factors, it will act indirectly on environmental factors. In other words, by encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyles (a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, regular physical activity, changes in means of transport) there will inevitably be a reduction in pollution and noise due to more conscious consumer behaviour. As it is a global problem, across age and gender, the project was designed to reach out to the community at large. However, it is important to highlight three groups: children/young people, women and cancer patients."
