Accelerate Bhutan’s Job Transformation through Renewable Natural Resource Value Chains

TThe objective of the Project is to increase value addition and employment in selected renewable natural resource (RNR) value chains in Bhutan. This objective will be achieved by: (a) strengthening sustainable agricultural production in targeted value chains, by supporting adoption of climate smart-agriculture technologies and providing key inputs and equipment to producers; (b) providing organizational support, technical assistance and matching grants to potential beneficiaries for the preparation and implementation of selected Productive Partnerships (PPs) aimed at increase competitiveness, value addition and enhancing market access; and (c) support the implementation of Institutional Strengthening Plans by key stakeholders for increasing market exploration capacity, upgrading quality infrastructure for trade facilitation, and enhancing service delivery, with the objective of improving the enabling environment to unlock private investments in selected value chains. The Project will directly benefit about 42,000 people (about 65 percent females), comprising individual members of small and medium scale holdings in agriculture and livestock, members of producer organizations and upstream service enterprises. At the same time, the total estimated new jobs to be created is equivalent to about 816 direct full-time jobs (“new jobs”), and significant increases in labor productivity is expected to be the equivalent of about 11,200 full-time jobs (“better jobs”).
