Description

Description

European airports are playing a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and transitioning towards sustainable operations, aligning with the EU Green Deal. The EU's Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy highlights the importance of decarbonising transport modes, including aviation, and promoting zero-emission airports as key policy areas that are fully aligned with the EU Green Deal agenda. The agenda aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all sectors while maintaining connectivity and economic prosperity. As part of this initiative, the Net Zero 2050 Resolution by ACI EUROPE acts as a global benchmark, pushing airports to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, a critical target to mitigate the most severe impacts of climate change. The Accelerating Green Energy iNfrastructure Deployment in European Airports_Part (AGENDA) global project, coordinated by ACI EUROPE, aims at contributing to and accelerating the implementation of the Net Zero 2050 Resolution, thanks to two complementary projects: AGENDA I and AGENDA II. These projects support regulations aimed at greening airport operations through the installation of Electric Ground Power Units (eGPU), Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) systems and charging points for ground service vehicles. AGENDA I brings together a consortium of European airports, including Cologne Bonn and Stuttgart Airports (Germany), Graz and Vienna airports (Austria), SEA Milan airports (Linate and Malpensa for Italy), and the aviation company EVIA AERO. AGENDA II - this project - covers the airport of Kosice (Slovakia). AGENDA II encompasses deploying high-capacity mobile eGPU units and fixed 63A sockets integrated with renewable energy systems, leveraging photovoltaic capacity to power operations with clean electricity. By focusing on electrification and green infrastructure investments, the AGENDA II project at Kosice Airport anticipates significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the EU's climate targets and setting a precedent for the aviation industry's shift towards sustainability. Moreover, the Project relies on 100% renewable electricity from sun and wind, contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal.
