Description

Description

The proposed Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation in Kenya (ASCENT Kenya) is aligned with Government of Kenya’s electrification and clean cooking goals as stipulated in the Vision 2030, Kenya National Energy Policy 2025 - 2034, and Kenya National Electrification Strategy (KNES) (2025-2030), which aim to achieve universal electricity access and access to clean cooking by 2030. It is further aligned to Kenya’s Fourth Medium Term Plan (2023 – 2027) under Vision 2030 and its strategy for job creation by supporting macro and small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through credit facilitation, technology access and market linkages; and raising agricultural productivity through improved value chains. The project will increase energy access and access to clean and efficient energy solutions for productive uses leveraging solar energy for households, commercial, and industrial users, and public institutions in rural, peri-urban and urban areas through clean energy solutions including refrigeration and air conditioning, and to support value chains that increase productivity and create jobs. The Project will adopt an inter-sectoral to collaborate with other sectors and leverage synergies across World Bank-financed activities particularly including in Agriculture, Education, Health, Transport and Water sectors.
