Description

Description

The development objective of the Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation (ASCENT) in Zambia Project is to increase access to clean energy in rural and peri-urban areas of Zambia. The Theory of Change for the Program is a sub-set of the ASCENT MPA’s overall program framework. The program’s activities described in next section are fully aligned with the scope of activities under the ASCENT MPA, drawing on ASCENT’s menu of options under all of its three pillars: (i) Pillar 1: Regional and National Platforms to accelerate energy access (Result Area (RA) 3), (ii) Pillar 2: Expanding grid electrification (RA 2); and (iii) Pillar 3: Scaling up DRE and Clean Cooking (RA 1). Result Area 1: Increasing Supply of Distributed Renewable Energy, focuses on supporting the provision of clean energy in rural and peri-urban areas through renewable energy mini grids, solar standalone systems and efficient and clean cooking solutions. Result Area 2: Expanding On-Grid Access to Electricity, supports grid intensification, densification and last-mile connections under the REP to provide financing for on-grid connections in rural areas using the approaches under the RBF Subsidy Program. Result Area 3: Strengthening National Platform for Energy Access, will support strengthening the policy framework for DRE solutions and the capacity of sector institutions in expanding on-grid and DRE solutions.
