The proposed Accelerating the Climate Transition (the Program) supports Uzbekistan to strengthen the enabling environment and institutional arrangements for a climate transition, strengthening the links and interaction of climate change adaptation priorities, and accelerating climate change mitigation actions. The Program aligns with the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) forthcoming Country Partnership Strategy for Uzbekistan, 2024-2028, which prioritizes the facilitation of Uzbekistan's transitioning to a green economy, supports climate change mitigation and adaptation, and climate and disaster resilience. The proposed program complements ADB forthcoming policy-based and sector development programs supporting climate transition in finance and energy.The Program aligns with ADB Strategy 2030 operational priorities 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 for accelerating progress in gender equality, climate change, resilience, and environment, strengthening governance and institutional capacity, and promoting regional cooperation and integration. The Program is consistent with the ADB Climate Change Action Plan, 2023-2030, which outlines ADB's support for strategic interventions and initiatives to spearhead climate action, in line with the Paris Agreement, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Based on the Joint MDB Methodological Approach for Assessment of Paris Agreement Alignment, the Program is aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
