Description
Description | In addition to poor infrastructure, inadequate access to adequate financial services is still a major limiting factor in the exploitation of the economic potential of many developing and emerging countries. Poorer sections of the population and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in particular often do not have adequate access to formal financial services. As a result, investments that promote growth and employment are often not possible. This represents a serious obstacle to the overall economic development of many developing and emerging countries. The aim of the project is to establish new microfinance institutions (MFIs), particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caucasus and Central Asia, and to strengthen existing institutions. This will enable them to expand their business activities and offer target group-oriented financial services to MSMEs and low-income households there. To achieve this goal, the project includes a stake in Access Microfinance Holding to strengthen the equity base. Access Microfinance Holding is involved in microfinance institutions in selected African and Asian countries through majority shareholdings and centrally develops the personnel, products and organization of the MFIs. The project therefore supports the microfinance sector in a variety of ways. On the one hand, efficient and sustainable organizational structures of MFIs are quickly created through new establishments (greenfielding). On the other hand, existing non-governmental organizations are transformed into financial institutions with a banking license (upgrading). Access Microfinance Holding also supports and specifically promotes the development of MFIs. |
