Description

Objectives: To improve access to justice for victims of violent crime suffered in pre-trial and immigration detention by ensuring Directives 2011/29/EU and 20014/80/EC (“the Directives”) are implemented and applied. Activities: The project focuses on the practical protections offered by the Directives for victims and actively promotes implementation in the detention context by: 1. In-depth research into local practice in six Member States; 2. A survey of current practice across the EU region; 3. Local advocacy to engage key stakeholders in six Member States; 4. Regional advocacy to ensure a positive impact across the EU. Type and number of persons benefiting from the project: 1. Improved protections and information for the 213,114 people in EU pre-trial and immigration detention; 2. 1,170 practitioners working fields relating to victim and detainee rights will be engaged and provided with guidance on the Directives; 3. 380 EU and domestic policy-makers engaged and informed on the effect of the Directives. 4. The EU public, particularly in six partner Member States, to benefit from greater rights awareness for victims and the particular challenges victims in detention face. Expected results: 1. Significantly increased knowledge of the Directives' rights across key stakeholders relating to pre-trial and immigration detention; 2. Engagement of key stakeholders in collaborative work to improve protection and implementation of detained victims’ rights; 3. Improved rights protection for victims and an increase of co-ordinated efforts to apply the Directives’ standards across the EU. Type and number of outputs to be produced: 1. EU regional survey; 2. Review of local law and practice in each partner Member State; 3. Local advocacy including country specific Guidance Notes, round-table meetings and media campaigns; 4. Regional advocacy including policy meetings, a Regional Report and Regional Guidance Note plus launch event, and EU-wide media campaign.
