Accra-Tema Motorway PPP project

The Accra-Tema motorway is a 19.5km dual carriageway linking the city of Accra, the Kotoka International Airport and Tema Port. It forms an integral part of the National Route 1 (N1) starting from Aflao (in the Volta Region) and ending at Elubo (in the Western Region).  It is also part of the Trans West African Highway (Abidjan-Lagos Corridor).The proposed scope of the project to be developed under a PPP model comprises of the following road sections for a combined 29.7 km:19.5km original Accra – Tema motorway which runs between Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and the Tema Roundabout (N1)2.6km Tema Roundabout - Afariwa Junction along the Akosombo Road( N2)6.1km Tetteh Quarshie Interchange – Apenkwa Interchange along the George W Bush Highway (N1)1.5km Apenkwa Interchange - Neoplan Junction along the Nsawam Road (N6)The proposed project also includes improvements or the construction of ten interchanges. The successful bidder will be responsible for the following services:Reconstruction of the Accra-Tema motorway with a focus on capacity enhancement.Provision of entry and exit ramps at strategic locations along the motorway.Upgrading and capacity enhancement of the Tetteh Quarshie InterchangeProvision of necessary facilities for safe pedestrian crossingsConstruction of grade-separated interchanges at the Tema and Ashaiman roundaboutsCapacity enhancement of the road link between the two roundabouts of the road leading up to the Afariwa junction on the Akosombo roadRemodelling of the Apenkwa InterchangeUpgrading of road linking Apenkwa Interchange and Neoplan junction
