Description
Description | "The ""Ace of Cups"" is the ESC, Volunteering Teams in High Priority Areas project which will be held with 6 Bulgarian, 6 Greek, 6 Georgian and 24 Turkish volunteers for 16 days in Ayancik, Turkey where they experienced a severe flood disaster last year. On the 11th August 2021, Sinop, Kastamonu and Bartin regions on the Black Sea coast in Turkey were surrendered to the flood because of the heavy rain. 77 deaths and 47 people were reported as missing. The bodies were found on the shores. In the Sinop region, the number of people who died by the flood are 14. Not only people but also a lot of farm animals and pets lost their lives. Gushing water destroyed the houses, buildings, roads, bridges, trees and everything along its way and swept them away to the sea. Houses, the bridge and roads collapsed, even rescue dozer fell in the crazy river, people were asking help on the roofs of their buildings thinking that maybe a helicopter can come and rescue them, people died under the ruins, some bodies were found in the sea, most of their property was gone, cars were swept away like a surfboard on the river, their animals died, it was a doomsday for Ayancik, which is in the Sinop region. The volunteers in teams will participate in a solidarity activity in order to heal the wounds of the community in Ayancik. Even though the government has worked a lot on rebuilding the town so far, there is still sorrow and grief which are irreversible. The “Ace of Cups”, will try to bring back the joy they used to have before with the following activities: - Fun and interactive activities with whole families - Public events such as concerts with the inhabitants as performers - Making a documentary movie of the survivors' experience of flood - Learning traditional linen weaving and cooking the traditional cuisine from the inhabitants in return We will disseminate our project with the local events with our partners in Sofia, Athens, Tbilisi and Sinop again for 2 years." |
