The purpose of the project is to equip the Société de transport de Laval (STL) with software for assigning schedules to drivers. The application can be used to assign schedules automatically based on employee preferences in a maximum of three weeks. The application will manage constraints and exercise control to prevent assignment errors. Purchasing this tool will enable the STL to make changes to the service offering on short notice. The project involves delivery of a software program for on-line (web-based) schedule assignments to drivers. It must also make the information available for consultation by employees. The application must interface with the existing Hastus BID, Hastus timetable planning and the existing dispatch system. The STL reduced the costs of the project because it chose to develop the application in-house rather than acquiring a turnkey software package from an external supplier. This least expensive solution for the allocation of schedules.
