Description
Description | The electricity distributors Amazonas Distribuidora de Energia S/A, Boa Vista Energia S/A, Companhia de Eletricidade do Acre (ELETROACRE), Companhia de Energia do Piauí (CEPISA), Companhia Energética de Alagoas (CEAL) and Centrais Elétricas de Rondônia S/A (CERON) are responsible for serving approximately four million consumers in more than 470 municipalities. These energy distributors belong to the Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. – Eletrobras group and were qualified in the Investment Partnership Program (PPI) through Decree No. 8,893, of November 1, 2016 Below, general data from the respective distributors: Electricity Distribution Companies state Number of Consumers Served Number of Municipalities Served Amazonas Distribuidora de Energia S/A Amazon 897,041 62 Boa Vista Energia S/A Roraima 106,621 10 ELETROACRE Acre 242,693 22 CEPISA Piauí 1,170,000 224 CEAL Alagoas 1,045,000 102 CERON Rondônia 589,332 52 TOTAL – 4,050,687 472 Source: Eletrobras In 2015, Eletrobras chose not to renew the concession contracts granted to the aforementioned distributors. In view of this, the Federal Government resumed the privatization process, designating the National Bank for Social Development (BNDES) as responsible for its execution and monitoring (according to article 2 of Decree nº 8,893/16). The privatization of distributors involves the granting of the concession contract for the public electricity distribution service, associated with the transfer of shareholding control of the distributors' shares, with the new concessionaire being responsible for making the necessary investments to guarantee gains in efficiency, management and improvement in quality of services provided to the consumer. |
