The project Active Citizens Together for Rule of Law and Union of Liberties in Europe (ACT4RULE) addresses the serious democratic challenges in Slovakia, Hungary, and Czechia, where corruption, disinformation, and civic apathy increasingly undermine democratic participation. In response, ACT4RULE mobilizes civil society actors—Nadácia Zastavme korupciu, Oživení, Transparency International Hungary, and the Slovak Whistleblower Protection Office—to foster citizens’ engagement ahead of key municipal and parliamentary elections in 2026–2027. The project promotes citizens’ democratic literacy, particularly among youth, first-time voters, and marginalized groups, using tailored communication campaigns, public debates, civic festivals, storytelling, and digital engagement tools. It aims to counteract democratic backsliding by raising awareness about corruption’s harmful impacts, empowering whistleblowers, and reinforcing public trust in democratic institutions. Activities include international conferences, municipal debates, electoral watchdog initiatives, educational workshops, and cross-border networking. These efforts align with the CIV25 call’s Priority 3 – Promoting citizens’ active engagement and democratic participation—by strengthening participatory democracy, increasing voter turnout, supporting citizen-led initiatives, and building resilience against disinformation and populist narratives. Through innovative methods and strong cross-sector partnerships, ACT4RULE will directly engage thousands of citizens across the three countries and contribute to a broader, sustained movement for democratic renewal and rule of law in Central Europe.
