Description

Description

The two major objectives of this project are to improve the safety of the urban pathway (4.8 km) and to make it more accessible for recreational hikers, of course, and for those who would like to use it to run errands or commute to work. To achieve these two objectives, the path needs to be widened and equipped with proper signage. The path will be widened from 2.4 m (8 ft.) to 3.1 m (10 ft.) along its entire route. As noted earlier, this change is needed to reduce the potential for pedestrian/bicycle collisions and, at the same time, reduce the stress of congestion due to the narrowness of the current pathway. It is important for both cyclists and pedestrians to have their own lane in both directions. Proper signage should facilitate the achievement of the safety objective and promote active transportation. Once the path is safer, it will become more accessible to all users, including those with mobility impairments who use wheelchairs. See pages 8 to 16 of the main document for a more detailed description of the project, its challenges, the steps to its implementation, and its benefits.
