Description

Description

The Flemish and Dutch agriculture faces various challenges, including declining profitability, growing size and high environmental pressure. In addition, a data revolution is taking place internationally towards a smarter agriculture where data is generated via sensors in the soil, on the crop, on drones, etc. This data is then processed with algorithms and is interchangeable via Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Internet of Things applications. The possibilities are enormous but are not yet being exploited. Investing in precision agriculture for sustainable and efficient production Thanks to improved Agri-DataManagement (ADaM), technical innovations and practical demonstrations, Adam & PreciLa wants to bring precision agriculture (PreciLa) to the grower in Flanders and the Netherlands. Various applications such as variable fertilisation and growth control, smart irrigation and variable seeding and plants are tested for generating and translating raw data into practical advice to better understand the costs and benefits of precision agriculture. For example, thanks to collected data from soil moisture sensors and soil scans, drone and satellite images, separately controllable irrigation blocks can be installed in order to realise smart irrigation. In order to manage the data generated from the various precision techniques, the project strives for optimally connected data platforms. For example, the grower and his advisor have all the information in one place and can compare information from different sources and combine them into task cards for variable cultivation measures. Finally, growers need to have a clear understanding of the investment costs in relation to the potential surplus yield. An economic and technical evaluation of the technologies seeks to provide insight into this.
