Description

The proposed AF will support the Government of Tajikistan in preventing, preparing and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, to safeguard essential health services, and to respond to an eligible crisis or emergency. More specifically, the AF will finance the expansion of the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program through vaccine procurement and through funding for vaccine deployment activities, including essential supplies, and investments in electronic vaccine and testing registration system. It will finance additional COVID-19 tests, and provide funding for communication activities related to COVID-19. The AF will also finance the project implementation and monitoring activities. Summary of key AF activities and changes by components:Component 1: Strengthening Intensive Care Capacity and COVID-19 Prevention. Current allocation – US$ 18.6 million; proposed AF allocation US$ 24.36 million; total revised allocation US$ 42.96 million.Change: procuring additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine to allow the government to cover the expanded targets of the National Vaccine Deployment Plan and cover the delivery cost. In addition, it will also finance COVID-19 tests, as well as additional PPE and supplies (medications, consumables) needed for the clinical management of COVID-19 patients. Finally, the Project will provide financing for expanding the capacity of the electronic vaccine and COVID-19 testing registration system. Component 2: Multi-sectoral Response Planning and Community Preparedness. Current allocation – US$ 1.28 million; proposed AF allocation US$ 0.15 million; total revised allocation US$ 1.43 million.Change: The proposed AF will provide additional funds to support communication activities related to COVID-19 in general and to COVID-19 vaccination in particular.Component 3: Temporary Social Assistance for Vulnerable Households. Current allocation – US$ 11.30 million; proposed AF allocation US$ 0 million; total revised allocation US$ 11.30 million.Change: No changes to Component 3 are envisioned under this AF. Component 4: Project Implementation and Monitoring (current allocation – US$ 1.3 million; proposed AF allocation US$ 0.48 million; total revised allocation US$ 1.78 million.Change: To support the project management and monitoring by supporting the PIU under the MOHSP
