The Additional Financing for General Education Improvement Project (GEIP-AF) is to provide an additional International Development Association (IDA) Credit of US$60.00 million equivalent and a GPE grant of US$19.5 million [after the deduction of the supervision fee for the Grant Agent of US$.05 million]) to the parent project with existing financing of US$60.00 million equivalent of IDA Credit and US$9.25 million of a GPE grant. Following the financing modality of its parent project, GEIP-AF fund secondary sub-sector interventions by IDA Credit, while the GPE funds will support pre-primary and primary education interventions.The proposed AF is fully aligned with the parent project, with an addition of a new activity on textbook modernization. Specifically, the PDO will remain the same, which is: “to improve the quality of and equitable access to general education in target areas, and to provide immediate and effective response in case of an Eligible Crisis or Emergency”. However, to contribute to the original PDO, the proposed AF will scale up the implementation of the agreed activities under the parent project to additional secondary schools, primary schools, and pre-schools. Specifically, the additional IDA financing would be used to mainstream activities of GEIP to an additional 500 secondary schools, while the GPE funds would be used to support 1,000 primary schools and 80 pre-schools. In total, there will be 920 secondary schools, 2,000 primary schools, and 293 pre-schools benefitting from GEIP and GEIP AF. The AF will add an additional sub-component on ‘modernizing textbooks and teacher guides for general education’ under Component 1. Thus, the AF will also add two results intermediate indicators to monitor the implementation progress of the activities related to this sub-component. In that regard, the proposed components and sub-components are presented as below.1.
