Description

Description

With the objective of improving the development and learning outcomes of children from 0-7 years old, the Project aims at (i) improving ECCE teaching practices nationwide; (ii) upgrading the physical learning environments of selected ECCE centers, and (iii) strengthening MINEDUCYT’s institutional capacity for education sector management. The proposed AF of US$14.25 million in GPE financing will be added to the Project to support new activities that will expand the scope of Components 1 and 4 activities and will benefit the same Project’s universe that encompasses all ECCE public centers and the families and children from 0 to 7 years old served by those centers. Component 1 would include new activities to develop and implement a program to promote early literacy and girls' empowerment at home, and strengthen the transition between preschool and basic education; and Component 4 would be complemented with a learning assessment framework that promotes the use of evaluation learning results in language, mathematics, and socioemotional skills to inform education policies, especially of learning losses, as well as pedagogical decisions, and teacher-training reforms. Activities related to the learning assessment framework and the improvement of children's transition from preschool to basic education would be supported by the Multiplier Grant (US$9.25 million), while the activities to promote early literacy and girls' empowerment would be supported by the Gender Accelerator Grant (US$5 million). There will be no changes to the costs and scope of Components 2, 3 and 5.
