Description

Description

The proposed project will support the implementation of Burundi COVID-19 Contingency plan validated in February 2020 and updated in March 2020 on aspects related to emergency response, support to national and sub-national prevention and preparedness, community and engagement and risk communication as well as monitoring and evaluation. The changes proposed for the AF entail the inclusion of vaccine financing and expansion of the scope of activities in the parent project, Burundi COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Project, adjusting its overall design. The AF will support the Government of Burundi’s (GoB’s) efforts to further strengthen its response to the COVID-19 pandemic by purchasing vaccines, preparing the health system for the deployment of the COVID-19 vaccines, and supporting their distribution and administration. Moreover, the AF will enhance the effectiveness of the parent project by addressing emerging gaps in the COVID-19 response and scaling up relevant activities. The AF involves adding three sub-components under parent project’s components 1, 2 and 3. • Component 1 on Emergency COVID-19 Response will be reorganized to include a sub-component 1.1: COVID-19 vaccines procurement. • Component 2 on Supporting National and Sub-national, Prevention and Preparedness will be reorganized and added a sub-component 2.1: strengthen systems for vaccine deployment; and• Component 3 on Community Engagement and Risk Communication will be reorganized and a sub-component 3.2 added on COVID-19 vaccine demand generation. Component 4 on Project Implementation and Monitoring and Evaluation will continue to support the activities defined under the parent project but will be expanded as per the description of implementation arrangements. As the proposed activities to be funded under the AF for Burundi are aligned with the original PDO, the PDO will remain unchanged.
