Additional Financing to the EAC Regional Statistics Program for Results

The proposed additional financing will add Burundi to the EAC Regional Statistics Program for Results as an IPF component. The Burundi additional financing IPF will support the implementation of the three strategic pillars of the NSDS III. Like the three countries (Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania) in the parent project, Burundi has developed and adopted its third National Statistics Development Strategy (SNDS III 2022-2026). It aims to “provide the Government and various users with quality statistics relating to all areas of national life.” The NSDS III is based on the following three strategic pillars: (i) strengthening the regulatory framework and governance of the National Statistical System (SSN), (ii) Improving the coverage and quality of statistical production, and (iii) Improving the human, material, and financial resources of the SSN. Like Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, Burundi is an EAC member state and its NSDS aims to harmonize national statistics according to regional EAC guidelines. The additional financing (US$ 20 million ) for Burundi is planned to fund core activities from 2024 to 2027 as an IPF grant.
