Description

Description

The purpose of the program is to assist the World Health Organization to support national governments and regional authorities in addressing emerging infectious diseases and other public health threats. Activities may include strengthening epidemiologic capacity through improvements in surveillance, monitoring, and response; building public health infrastructure; enhancing laboratory practice; improving information systems; developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based prevention and control strategies; and implementing improved prevention and control of public health emergencies of international concern. The program will support the provisions of the International Health Regulations (IHR), revised in 2005, which contribute to global public health security by providing a framework for the management of events that may constitute a public health emergency of international concern.
