Description

Description

SA Water Corporation, a public company of the Government of South Australia, has awarded Sacyr the design, construction and management of a high technology tertiary water treatment plant for agricultural use north of Adelaide, Australia. The project, which will be developed in phases, has a total amount of $133.4 million Australian (about €85 million). The EPC project, awarded to Sacyr Industrial in a 50% consortium with the Australian Leed Engineering and Construction, includes the necessary infrastructure for the treatment and distribution of water for agricultural use and provides for the possibility of adapting the plant to include reverse osmosis technology. The plant will have a production capacity of up to 12 hectometres per year. The facility, designed with the latest technological advances in the water industry, will treat and recycle the effluent from the treatment plant located in Bolivar and distribute the treated water through a 22-kilometer pipeline. In addition, Sacyr, through its subsidiary specialized in the complete water cycle, Valoriza Agua, will operate the facilities for a minimum period of five years. Detailed engineering work has already begun and the plant is scheduled to start operating and supply water to agricultural customers by the end of 2019. This ambitious project of the Government of South Australia will allow a new agricultural development with high possibilities of water use in the region, which will encourage a strong boost to the export of greenhouse products based on cutting-edge technologies. Sacyr already has projects in three Australian states. In Binningup (Western Australia) designed, built, and currently manages, a seawater desalination plant by reverse osmosis that produces 306,000 m³ of drinking water per day, covering 34% of the water demand of the city of Perth. In Western Australia, Newman has built the new drinking water treatment plant for the BHP Billiton mine. In Melbourne (State of Victoria), Sacyr is building the mechanical and biological municipal organic waste treatment plant in Dandenong (Melbourne), which will treat organic waste from selective collection during a 15-year exploitation period. The facility will have a capacity of 100,000 tons per year and will serve a population of 1.2 million people in the south-east metropolitan area of Melbourne.
