APTITUDE (Advanced Project for Trusted Identity Technologies and Unified Digital Ecosystem) unites 118 partners from 11 EU Member States and Ukraine, aiming to analyze, integrate, and pilot use cases focused on Travel and Payment within European Digital Identity Framework. This Member States driven project builds on foundational EU initiatives, including amendments to Regulation 910/2014, the European Digital Identity Network, and previous Large-Scale Pilots (LSPs) to support the interoperable and scalable development of EUDIW. APTITUDE will focus on four use cases to test EUDIW in various scenarios: Digital Travel Credentials (DTC), Tickets and Check-in (hotels, public transportation, etc), Mobile Vehicle Registration Certificate (mVRC), and Payments and Banking (Strong Customer Authentication, PBEE Framework). These use cases aim to demonstrate EUDIW’s interoperability, usability, and scalability, ensuring compatibility with EU standards. Transversal work packages ensure strong technical foundation, compliance, and a robust communication strategy, promoting the benefits of EUDIW across sectors. APTITUDE fosters collaboration among public and private stakeholders, enhancing technical documentation, standardized protocols and interoperability frameworks.. By leveraging insights from earlier LSPs, APTITUDE supports Member States in building and testing the infrastructure required to meet the 2026 EUDIW deployment target, by developing a resilient digital identity system. APTITUDE aligns with the European Commission’s work program by enhancing EUDIW solutions in line with the Commission’s 2026 goal for a standardized digital identity across all Member States. The pilot will help specify and test EUDIW and Trust Systems, ensuring the use of European Commission standards, meeting the needs of citizens and businesses across the EU.
